Abstract
The expected impact of the project is to enhance naval vessel operational capabilities, making them truly stealth against all kind of emissions whilst improving its own detection capabilities, being at the same time safer, more efficient and sustainable. With this aim, ADMIRABLE project is paving the way of the next generation defence vessel manufacturing by exploring the disruptive possibilities offered by advanced manufacturing technologies and the most promising composite based advanced materials. Summarizing the project challenge, it will focus on simultaneously improving performance of the most sensitive issues for the future navies: Size, Weight, Power and Cost (SWaP-C) reduction while improving stealth, fire and thermal resistance and transparency to emissions and ballistic protection. Such purposes will be pursued by designing new low weight multifunctional materials for key parts of the vessel, enabling future structures to have both electromagnetic and structural functions able to resist high temperatures and fire provoked by generation of weapons, and consequently minimizing the ship’s vulnerability features.
