The ROOT (Rolling Out OSNMA for the secure synchronization of Telecom networks) project wants to assess the benefit introduced by the Galileo OSNMA signal in the synchronization of telecom networks, mainly in terms of an increased resiliance of the networks when their GNSS-based timing sources are attacked by intentional interference. ROOT will consider the requirements (i.e.: accuracy, tollerance to timing outages) posed by the new generation of wireless networks (i.e. 5G, xxx) to guarantee the expected perfomance. ROOT, as an innovation action, will follow and experimental approach and intends to demonstrate and measure the increased level of robusteness provided by pre-commercial Galileo OSNMA-ready receivers, when they slave multiple timing sources across the network, measuring specific network-related KPI. ROOT intends to foster the adoption of Galileo signals featuring authentication mechanisms in terrestrial infrastructures dependant upon satellite-derived time.
