Abstract
Exoskeletons are articulated mechanical systems coupled with the human body that work in concert with the operator’s movements to augment his/her performance. Expected benefits are a reduction of biomechanical loading on joints, muscle fatigue and metabolic expenditure during work activities and in demanding static postures. However, the intimate contact with the human user poses numerous challenges in terms of safety, effectiveness and usability of the exoskeleton. Introduction in the work environment brings in further constraints in the exoskeleton architecture and devices, nature of coupling to the human and user’s acceptability. The project aims at the analysis and evaluation of the applicability of existing exoskeletons to workplaces in needs of ergonomic improvements.
