Abstract
The present project aims at using devices (low cost, low weight, high corrosion resistance) to encompass Thermal Storage Materials (TSM) based on salt hydrates with extreme energy storage density (owing to their higher thermal conductivities and latent heat values of up to above 2000 kJ/kg) for the below final overall goals: - Improvement of vehicles re-start efficiency after prolonged stops both in term of reduced fuel consumption and reduced cold-start emissions (engine oil and coolant pre-heating, catalytic converters pre-heating by a pre-heated air flow air). Such technologies are eligible as Eco Innovation in EU and Off Cycle credits in US - Achievement of a low-energy remote-controlled/programmable pre-warming of vehicle cockpit before the passengers’ arrival so to enable the elimination of equivalent energy demanding devices (e.g. PTC heaters).
