Abstract

This spoke will explore and develop integrated approaches to assess multiscale environmental degradation, and provide new technologies, protocols, modeling frameworks for quantitative assessing, simulation, and management of the cumulative multiscale hazard related to multiple sources of impact on terrestrial, coastal and marine environments, including pollution and environmental threats, and also considering climate change scenarios. The activities include uncertainty quantification in modeling, advanced solutions for mitigation and remediation and proof of concepts to show the merits and potential of the proposed activities. The spoke will deliver integrated approaches to monitor, forecast, prevent, adapt, mitigate and remediate environmental degradation with respect to pollution, wildfires and land degradation processes in both current state and climate change scenarios for terrestrial, coastal and marine environments. This will include: enhancing modeling framework for reducing uncertainty in assessing impact of contaminant and contaminants mixture; novel approaches (including remote observations) to better monitor environmental land and sea degradation; modeling and assessment of multi-risks related to pollution and environmental threats, including climate change; identify and develop novel strategies to quantify the impact of contaminants with particular reference to mitigation and remediation techniques, with special focus on selected representative case studies/ demonstrators.
