The work of PoliTO Japan Hub allows for the expansion and strengthening of its relationships with Japanese universities and institutions. As part of this network of contacts, on May 29 and 30, a delegation from the Institute of Science Tokyo (IST) visited PoliTO. The delegation was led by Professor Kei Sakaguchi, Vice President for Research Strategy and Planning, and by the Dean of School of Engineering, Professor Hirotsugu Inoue. It also included Takeshi Hatanaka, Daisuke Matsuura, and Toshihiro Chujo. The Japanese delegation met with the Vice-Rector for Internationalization, Alberto Sapora, the Director of the Doctoral School, Professor Stefano Grivet Talocia, and Professor Giuseppe Quaglia, director of the Japan Hub. Professor Quaglia had previously visited IST during his trip to Japan in May.

The Institute of Science Tokyo is a prestigious Japanese university, with an important lon-lasting partnership with Politecnico. IST adopted this name in 2024, following the merger between Tokyo Institute of Technology and Tokyo Medical and Dental University.

With the aim of strengthening relations between the two universities, on the first day of the visit, the Japanese delegation met with Politecnico professors Carla Chiasserini, Elisa Capello, Fabrizio Dabbene, and Lorenzo Casalino. They had the opportunity to present their research, providing many points of interest on which future research collaborations can be built.

On the second day, after a visit to the interdepartmental center PIC4SeR – PoliTo and the laboratories of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering-DIMEAS, an institutional meeting was held with Vice-Rector Alberto Sapora and Professors Stefano Grivet Talocia and Giuseppe Quaglia. They introduced PoliTO international activities and policies, exchanging constructive reflections on the strategic vision of the two universities and the future of this important partnership.
