The European Journal of Spatial Development is among the most prestigious scientific journals according to ANVUR
Scientific excellence in the fields of urban and territorial planning and design, originality and methodological rigor of the published contributions: the EJSD - European Journal of Spatial Development journal, published by PoliTO, has been positively evaluated by the National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research System (ANVUR), accrediting itself among the best in its competitive sector for its demonstrated scientific value.
The journal – the first case of publication within the university library system using OJS - Open Journal System software, the most widely used standard for managing peer-reviewed academic journals – has been led since 2021 by Professor Loris Antonio Servillo, chief editor along with Professors Tuna Tasan-Kok from the University of Amsterdam and Eva Purkarthofer from Aalto University in Finland. Coordinated by Giancarlo Cotella and Marco Santangelo, members of the editorial group, and by Francesco Fiermonte, technical project manager, EJSD is positioned within the social sciences thematic area, primarily in the fields of Territorial Planning and Local Development, Urban Studies, and Political Geography, welcoming contributions from all fields capable of contributing to the debate on European territorial policies, challenges, and perspectives.
An important result achieved by the journal, which was specifically recognized for its scientific value in the competitive macro-sector 'Area 08' – Civil Engineering and Architecture – and 'Area 11' – Historical, Philosophical, Pedagogical and Psychological Sciences, with particular attention to the geography sector. For Area 08, the journal thus obtained 'class A' for sector 08/F1 – urban and territorial planning and design: a prestigious recognition, awarded because – rephrasing the description provided by the Agency during the evaluation – “the journal is the venue for national and international debate of Competitive Sector 08/F1 and presents scientific, disciplinary, and interdisciplinary objectives and scopes very pertinent to the competitive sector. The authors are part of the reference scientific community and are largely scholars of prestige in the national and international scientific community. Furthermore, the published contributions are often original on innovative themes, written with methodological rigor and endowed with good bibliographies”.
“It is a great satisfaction, which rewards the commitment of our international team in working towards an open access publication system, without publication costs, and in support of younger academic forces – comments Professor Servillo. We are particularly proud because it will be possible to found other scientific journals of this type within the Polytechnic University of Turin, making it a publisher. We hope that this important recognition opens the way for other similar projects, and in general favors the movement that supports open publishing without publication costs, for the free circulation of knowledge”.
