Great success for Team DIRECT's three-day mission to the Stura Valley - between the Grana Valley and the Sambuco heights in the Bandia plateau - for a training internship with documentation and mapping activities led by the PoliTO Geomatics Laboratory, coordinated by Nannina Spanò, Giacomo Patrucco and Marco Cappellazzo of the Department of Architecture and Design-DAD, Francesca Matrone and Alessandra Spadaro of the Department of Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering-DIATI. Advanced 3D sensing technologies were employed by a multidisciplinary team from Architecture and Engineering, consisting of about fifteen students and young researchers.

During the activities, 3D laser scanning and drone photogrammetry methods were used alongside innovative approaches such as mobile mapping systems based on SLAM (Simoultaneus Localization and Mapping). Collected data will form the groundwork for conservation, promotion and sustainable management studies of the area's cultural heritage.

A team from the University of Turin also took part in the mission, consisting of Filippo Monge, professor of Innovation Economics, and Robin Vanzolini, a doctoral candidate in Cultural heritage and historical-artistic, audiovisual and multimedia production.

The collaboration between the research groups of the two universities enriched the multidisciplinary approach of the initiative, integrating technical, economic and management skills for a broader and more innovative vision of the protection and promotion of Alpine cultural heritage.
