Politecnico boosting international collaborations at the Unite! Dialogue in Grenoble
A large PoliTO delegation of 40+ people participated in the 7th Unite! Dialogue entitled “Enhancing collaborations within Unite!”, hosted by Grenoble INP-UGA from February 28 to March 2.
Franz Bruckert, Grenoble INP – UGA Key Liaison Officer, opened the Dialogue with the by-now-traditional plenary session on February 28, which also counted with several guests from French institutions and ministries. Unite! President Tanja Brühl, TU Darmstadt, delivered a welcome speech stressing the importance of enhancing collaborations and strengthening Unite! identity in order to shape the future of the higher education system. Andreas Winkler, Unite! Secretary General, presented the main achievements of the previous pilot phase and the next planned steps of the Alliance, and Beatriz de Sousa Rodrigues, Representative of Students in Unite! for Representation and Empowerment (SURE!), concluded the session stressing the importance of the involvement of the whole Unite! student community.
Participants attended parallel meetings in order to continue the work started at the beginning of the second phase of the Alliance in November 2022. Rectors and Presidents, along with other representatives of the 9 partner Universities, gathered at the Unite! Governing Platform to discuss, among other subjects, the implementation of the upcoming Seed Fund calls and the status of the preparation of the Unite! proposal for the Horizon Europe European Excellence Initiative (EEI) call, as well as a proposal for the Unite! R&I and internationalization strategy, presented by prof. Roberto Zanino, PoliTO KLO for Unite!, as coordinator of the Unite! H2020 project.
“Whereas Unite! has been granted in 2022 another 4 years (very likely to become 6) of Erasmus+ funding, the R&I perspective, and with it a stronger involvement of academics in the Alliance, is still uncertain - Zanino declared - It is therefore of utmost importance that we work to guarantee a sustainable future also to R&I in the Alliance, which will probably require an effort from the European Commission, the Member States and our universities as well. The fact that the EEI proposal is being modeled as the natural continuation of the efforts currently ongoing in the Unite! H2020 pilots, which will be concluded at the end of this year, goes in the right direction.”
The expert community working on the Unite! Digital Campus hosted an interactive session, and transversal meetings on different subjects (data protection, student engagement, and intercultural team working) were aimed at finding synergies between the different Unite! communities. Several initiatives addressed to students were also presented during the various events, such as Unite!4Future award ceremony and the preview of what the forthcoming Unite! Student Festival in Lisbon will hold to foster the student offer and involvement. The SURE! organization, supported by the newly created role of the Student Liaison Officers, has been growing significantly since the previous pilot phase. The Dialogue ended with a plenary session aimed at summarizing all the work done over the three-day period as well as laying out upcoming actions by the different teams and communities involved in the Alliance.

Unite! Dialogues are the key format to raise the visibility of the Unite! vision and results within the member universities and their ecosystems. The PoliTO dialogue was hosted in September 2022. The upcoming Dialogue will be hosted by Wroclaw Tech from 19th to 21st September 2023.

Sono stati organizzati incontri paralleli per continuare i lavori iniziati a novembre scorso, con l’avvio della seconda fase dell’Alleanza. I Rettori, Presidenti e rappresentanti dei nove Atenei partner si sono contemporaneamente riuniti nella Governing Platform di Unite! per discutere, tra i vari temi, l’implementazione delle prossime proposte di Seed Fund e la risposta alla call Horizon Europe European Excellence Initiative (EEI), oltre che la strategia di ricerca, innovazione e internazionalizzazione presentata dal professor Roberto Zanino, Key Liaison Officer del Politecnico per Unite!, in qualità di coordinatore del progetto H2020 dell’Alleanza.
“Sebbene Unite! abbia ottenuto i fondi Eramsus+ per i prossimi 4 anni, destinati probabilmente a diventare 6, la prospettiva R&I dell’Alleanza, e con essa il crescente coinvolgimento della comunità accademica, rimangono incerte – ha sottolineato Zanino - Diventa dunque di massima importanza il nostro lavoro per garantire un futuro sostenibile a questi ambiti d’azione dell’Alleanza, il che richiederà probabilmente un ulteriore sforzo da parte della Commissione Europea, degli Stati Membri e delle nostre stesse Università. Il fatto che la proposta per Horizon EEI stia venendo modellata come la naturale prosecuzione degli sforzi attualmente in corso nel pilota H2020, che si chiuderà quest’anno, va sicuramente nella giusta direzione.”
Tra i numerosi incontri del Dialogue, un seminario interattivo è stato guidato dalla comunità responsabile del Digital Campus Unite!, e diverse sessioni parallele hanno affrontato temi che spaziavano dalla protezione dati, al coinvolgimento studentesco, al lavoro di gruppo interculturale, al fine di instaurare nuove sinergie tra le diverse comunità dell’Alleanza. Numerose iniziative rivolte agli studenti sono inoltre state illustrate in varie occasioni: tra queste, la cerimonia di premiazione Unite!4Future, e l’anteprima dello Student Festival a Lisbona. La rete SURE!, supportata dalle nuove figure degli Student Liaison Officer, si è rivelata in netta crescita rispetto alla fase pilota dell’Alleanza. Il Dialogue si è poi concluso con una sessione plenaria durante la quale tutte le comunità e i gruppi di lavoro Unite! hanno presentato i risultati raggiunti nei tre giorni di lavoro e le azioni pianificate per i prossimi mesi.
Cosa sono i Dialogue di Unite! ?
I Dialogue Unite! sono eventi pensati per accrescere la visibilità dell’Alleanza, della sua visione e dei suoi risultati all’interno delle Università partner e tra i loro stakeholder. Il Politecnico ha organizzato il suo Dialogue Unite! a settembre 2022. Il prossimo sarà ospitato da Wroclaw Tech dal 19 al 21 settembre 2023.
