Politecnico with Save the Children: for the fourth year together in support of children and adolescents as Volunteers for Education

Politecnico is once again participating in the Save the Children Volunteers for Education project. Since December 2020, this initiative has supported over 4800 children and adolescents with the involvement of more than 2700 Volunteers for Education. Each year, Save the Children receives over 1500 requests from schools across Italy seeking support for their students' learning. Those who choose to engage in this form of volunteering are individuals who strongly believe in the value of education and aim to contribute to combating educational poverty and school dropout rates.

The activity allows for the recognition of 1 extracurricular Credit Unit (CFU) for all participating students who engage in tutoring activities for at least 25 hours. For more information on CFU recognition, please contact the Student Career Office through the Ticketing service once the activity is completed.

How to participate:
  • Required availability: To participate, a commitment of at least two sessions per week, each lasting 1.5 hours (totaling 3 hours per week), is necessary. These sessions take place on weekdays from Monday to Friday, in the afternoon (between 2:00 PM and 6:30 PM). Volunteers specify their availability in terms of time and the chosen age group during the registration process.
  • Training: All volunteers will be supported through two mandatory training sessions before starting their journey to better assist their students. The first, to be completed on-demand and lasting 4 hours, and the second, a 2-hour live webinar facilitating direct interaction with the staff. Additionally, volunteers will receive ongoing support and guidance from Save The Children educators.
  • Volunteers will be offered the opportunity to participate in advanced training (optional) on topics such as teaching Italian as a second language, supporting students with Special Educational Needs/Learning Disabilities, digital teaching, psychosocial approaches to educational relationships, teaching STEM subjects, and assisting with the preparation for the final exam of the first cycle (former third grade). All content is accessible to those who join the project during the year as they will be recorded.
