Biography

Alex received his M.S. in Telelecommunication Engineering for Information Theory and Signal Processing Applications. Currently he is a Ph.D. candidate at Politecnico di Torino within the NavSAS research group. His
work is addressed to the design of cooperative positioning methods and algorithms suitable for mass market receivers, robotics and mobile devices. He also got experience in the field of Signal Processing working at EUMETSAT Polar
System (EPS) for the development of a high-sensitivity chirp detection algorithm for advanced interferometry and antenna calibration.

Awards and Honors

  • Regional Prize at the European Competition "Galileo Masters". The Galileo Masters, is a European initiative promoting the innovation and technology transfer in the field of Satellite Navigation. it promotes satellite navigation with a focus on the Galileo system and all the advanced applications based on its technology, such as services, products, and business innovations that use satellite navigation in everyday life. The competition has a worldwide outlook with a strong focus on Europe. Several prizes are promoted by European Regions and institutions. In 2019 prizes were awarded by some of the most relevant satellite navigation stakeholders in Europe, such as the European GNSS Agency (GSA), the European Space Agency (ESA), the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and by more than 20 European Regions. The Italy Challenge is managed by the Italian Space Agency and co-financed by the European Commission’s DG Grow. The team has been officially awarded on 4 December, at the Space Oscars – Awards Ceremony of the Galileo Masters and Copernicus Masters held in Helsinki, Finland in the framework of the EU Space Week 2019, an event that gathered together all the major satellite navigation and earth observation stakeholders In Europe. The idea and the proof-of-concept of CAPS.loc demonstrated how exchanging among connected users the measurements of the distance of the user from each satellite of the GNSS constellation and combining them in a proper way, it is possible to improve the accuracy, precision and robustness of the estimated position. (2019)
  • Conseguimento del Institute Of Navigation Student Paper Award 2019 per la pubblicazione "A Theoretical Study on the Benefits of Integrating GNSS and Collaborative Relative Ranges" che sarà presentato a Miami nella sessione "Connected and Collaborative Autonomy" della conferenza internazionale ION GNSS+ 2019 (18 settembre). "Student Paper Awards are intended to give promising students an opportunity to attend the world’s leading international ION GNSS+ conference and present their research. The students also get an opportunity to meet industry leaders and learn about the latest developments in GNSS technology." (2019)
  • Certificate of attendance as speaker in the second PitchD event, organized by IEEE Polito Student Branch. PitchD is a series of seminars in which PhD students will present their research work, mainly from a scientific point of view, but also giving a glimpse of their experience so far. The aim is to present to a broad audience the research carried out in our university, stimulating exchange of ideas and presenting also to Master's degree students the latest development is many research field. (2019)
  • TEDx talk Politecnico di Torino. Invited speaker of the first TEDx Politecnico di Torino with the talk “Re-inventing the stars to find your way-back” (re-inventare le stelle per ritrovare la strada), concerning cyber-security related to GNSS and the criminal activities threating civil navigation. I was awarded with the chance to be one of the TED speakers through an open competition for researchers and expert in technology held by TEDx Politecnico di Torino team on Friday 13th September 2019.
