SToria chE ti Passa: memoria e patrimonio urbano per la salute mentale
STEP – SToria chE ti Passa is a pilot project that tests an innovative model of cultural and participatory practices based on urban heritage in the Borgo San Paolo district of Turin, with the aim of reducing social isolation and promoting mental well-being.
Through a series of six co-creation workshops involving a group of older adults, the project explores how the memory of places and shared narratives can strengthen neighbourhood relationships and foster a greater sense of belonging. Drawing on salutogenic and biopsychosocial models, the project combines quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods to assess the relational and cognitive impact of heritage-based practices. The findings will provide a methodological foundation for replicating the model and informing future urban cultural welfare initiatives.
The project is implemented within District 3 of the City of Turin, specifically in the Borgo San Paolo neighbourhood, an area with a strong urban identity and a rich industrial heritage. Today, the neighbourhood is experiencing demographic ageing, ongoing social transformation, and a growing number of people living alone, making social isolation an increasingly significant challenge.
Within this context, STEP aims to generate measurable social impact on both individual and collective well-being through heritage-based practices that activate personal, relational, and community resources.
