Energy and PhDs at the center of the meeting between Politecnico and the Latin American universities of the Magalhaes Network

In the first week of August, a delegation from Politecnico - led by Professor Roberto Zanino, Advisor to the Rector for international university networks and the European University Alliance Unite!, which also included Professors Vincenzo Corrado and Massimo Santarelli, coordinator of the PhD program in Energy - met with a large delegation of representatives from various Latin American universities that are members of the Magalhaes network, currently chaired by PoliTO, and in particular: Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires, Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Universidade de São Paulo, Universidad de Chile, Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Universidad de los Andes, Tecnológico de Monterrey, and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.

The occasion was a hybrid workshop organized as part of the TNE Herit4Future project, coordinated by the University of Bologna, in which PoliTO is responsible for the work package dedicated to Energy, focused on the development of joint programs on that topic at PhD level.

During the four days of meetings, topics for possible collaboration were developed along five main lines: Building physics/energy for architecture; Electrical power systems; Energy for mobility; Nuclear energy; Renewable energy. An entire session was then dedicated to a series of presentations on the organization of the PhD program and related schools at PoliTO and in some of the Latin American universities participating in the workshop.

“The workshop was a remarkable success, exceeding even our expectations, and lays the foundations for a wide range of future collaborations along all the main lines mentioned above,” said Professor Roberto Zanino "The next event in the TNE Herit4Future project will involve a significant number of the professors and researchers who contributed to the workshop in organizing an Advanced Skill Course on energy issues to be held at PoliTO from November 3 to 7, on the sidelines of the Magalhaes network General Assembly. These events will contribute content to a program agreement for the development of collaborations between PoliTO and Latin American universities at PhD level, on which we are working with the strong support of PoliTO Doctoral School. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Universidad de Chile for the excellent hospitality it offered us in Santiago during the week of the workshop."

Taking the occasion, Professor Zanino also met with the Italian Ambassador to Chile, Valeria Biagiotti, and Professor Maria Montt, Vice President for International Affairs at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile.
