How to communicate research and engage audience: tools and models for Public Engagement
Nowadays researchers need to listen, communicate and collaborate with society. The course, addressed to Politecnico di Torino staff, aims to explore the principles and possible models of interaction with different audiences for research communication purposes.
The course is structured as a lecture along with brainstorming and interaction with participants through virtual boards.
The course has two online parts. The first (November 2nd) is open to research, administrative staff and PhD students willing to learn the theoretical basis of Public Engagement. In the second (November 9th) the trainer will provide feedback on a teamwork carried out by the participants beforehand. It is open to the first 30 enrolled researchers and PhD students taking part in the European Researchers' Night and Biennale della tecnologia in November to present their research activity.
Programme:
November 2nd 2020: 3-5 pm
· Why to interact with an audience?
Research communication as a form of public engagement. Presentation of the main theories and models underlying the processes of public involvement.
· How to build engagement opportunities for different audiences?
Description of the national and international contexts through some examples of formats (face to face and online) and contexts for research communication.
At 4,15 pm the trainer will introduce the teamwork that will be carried out in the second part of the webinar and instructions for their implementation will be provided.
November 9th 2020: 3-5 pm
During the second part of the webinar the trainer will give feedback on the teamwork that participants must complete by November 5th.
This feedback will form the basis for an interactive activity between the trainer and the working groups and will lead to the creations of a checklist to be used for future research communication activities.
The trainer is Dr. Leonardo Alfonsi.
Expert in science communication, he is director of Psiquadro, a company that organises scientific events and festivals. He was president of EUSCEA - European Science Engagement Association and he is currently coordinator of SHARPER the Italian European Researchers' Night and of FameLab Italy, a public speaking competition for young researchers.
Enrollment by October 29th
