Socio-economic inclusion in Agadez: principles, resources and local needs combined with universal knowledge and traditions of earthen architecture
Duration: 2020-2024
Scientific Coordinator: Francesca De Filippi
Project Type: Project funded by competitive grant
PoliTO Role: Scientific advisor
The aim of the project is to work in a neighbourhood of the city of Agadez, in Niger, where a model of territorial planning and incremental housing design will be developed using local materials (raw earth) and improved traditional technologies, in line with passive bioclimatic strategies.
The project focuses on the socio-economic inclusion of the most vulnerable groups through vocational training initiatives and the creation of local development opportunities. The research unit at the Polytechnic University of Turin is particularly involved in analysing and researching strategies for possible incremental development and for improving the bioclimatic control of raw earth dwellings.
