Wellbeing, Resilience and Heritage in Times of Crisis: Findings from the RESILIAGE Project
RESILIAGE - Advancing holistic understanding of community RESILIence and heritAGE drivers through community-based methodologies - is a three-year Horizon Europe project (2023 - 2026) dedicated to strengthening the resilience of communities in the face of climate change, natural hazards, and other disruptive events. Beyond infrastructure and emergency protocols, resilience requires also attention to the wellbeing of communities, the first responders, as well as the vulnerable groups who are often most at risk.
The RESILIAGE project combines research, co-creation, and hands-on experimentation to develop both digital and non-digital tools that enhance preparedness, recovery, and long-term wellbeing.
This online webinar, moderated by UNESCO, will showcase findings from the project and explore the many dimensions of wellbeing in times of crisis, from the preparation and in the aftermath of disruptive events.
Adopting an interdisciplinary approach to resilience and wellbeing, the project draws on insights from environmental psychology, heritage studies, and community engagement experts.
Participants will hear first-hand testimonies from the RESILIAGE first responders, complemented by a conceptual exploration of wellbeing during crises, including key definitions and data insights and the role of cultural and natural heritage in enhancing wellbeing.
The session will then highlight concrete solutions developed within the project — in particular, practical methodologies for training and citizen involvement — aimed at strengthening resilience and fostering community engagement.
Building on UNESCO’s work as well as the Commission’s 2022 CultureForHealth report and CultureAndHealth Platform on culture’s contribution to health and wellbeing, and on the recent ‘Culture and Health: The Time to Act Is Now’ report presented at MONDIACULT 2025, this webinar will explore wellbeing as a foundation of resilience, highlight the role of cultural and natural heritage, and signaling new ways of supporting communities, ensuring that no one is left behind in times of crisis.
