Rowing Regatta 2024 - XXVII edition
The historic rowing challenge between Turin's universities is back. The Rowing Regatta, now in its 27th edition, will take place on the banks of the Po River on Friday, October 4, 2024, featuring the crews from Politecnico di Torino, the University of Turin, and ESCP Business School competing for the podium.
The 2024 edition program is as follows:
4:50 PM | BLESSING OF THE BOATS at the Rectorate of the University of Turin (via Verdi 8, Turin), led by the university pastoral team
5:00 PM | BOAT PARADE
6:00 PM | XXVII ROWING REGATTA
Women's 4x crew - UniTo-PoliTo-ESCP
Men's 8+ crew - UniTo-PoliTo-ESCP
NEW FOR 2024: The first edition of the Po challenge between professors from Politecnico and the University of Turin in a mixed 4x (a single race to be held after the women’s challenge).
Following the races, there will be an AWARDS CEREMONY @Murazzi del Po
The first race on the Po River will be the women's 4x at 6:00 PM, followed by the men's 8+ race. The crews will compete in three heats over a 400-meter course (from Vittorio Emanuele I Bridge – Piazza Vittorio Veneto to Umberto I Bridge – Corso Vittorio Emanuele II). All three races will be against the current. The overall winner will be determined by the best placements in the three heats.
A BIT OF HISTORY
The Rowing Regatta dates back to 1997, the event’s first edition. It has since become a classic autumn event in Turin, celebrating its 27th edition on Friday, October 4, 2024.
The University Sports Center of Turin (CUS Torino) conceived this event as a counterpart to the historic challenge between the prestigious English universities of Cambridge and Oxford (held since the 19th century on the Thames River).
The goal is to promote a sense of belonging to the universities, university sports in Turin, and rowing, while also connecting these elements with the culture and history that define the city of Turin. The British rowing challenge inspired CUS Torino to adopt this tradition, giving university student-athletes the opportunity to experience the thrills of rowing in their local area. In 2023, the Rowing Regatta was won by the University of Turin, bringing the event's leaderboard to a 16-10 score, still in favor of UniTo. The men's race, however, saw Politecnico outperform both the University and ESCP.
