Lime exploitation and production for responsible mining

An event entitled "Lime exploitation and production for responsible mining" will be held on Thursday 9 November 2023, organized in the framework of the Master of Science in Georesources and Geoenergy Engineering - Sustainable Mining Track of the Politecnico.

Abstract

The burnt lime is an industrial mineral / raw material (chemical formula CaO) obtained through the heating of lime (chemical formula CaCO3) at a temperature higher than 900°C. After an excursus on its use in ancient times, the speakers will concentrate on its main characteristics, quarry operations required, the productive process and the reason why it is essential for modern societies. A special focus will be on burnt lime market applications, as well as on future challenges, especially in terms of environmental impact and sustainable production.

Speakers:
  • Giovanni Baldo - Technical Services Burnt Lime Area
  • Federico Bordin - Process Development Technologist, Fassa Srl
The seminar is organized in the framework of the Master of Science in Georesources and Geoenergy EngineeringSustainable Mining Track of Politecnico di Torino and is open to the public.
