Reliability, Diagnostics, Prognostics

The activity primarily focuses on elements such as actuators, servosystems, etc., primarily used in the aerospace sector but not exclusively, for which availability must be ensured. The main objectives are the reduction of maintenance operations and increased flexibility in their scheduling. An essential aspect is the identification of major degradations caused by various physical mechanisms (e.g., friction variations, fluid contamination, increased clearances, etc.) affecting the elements. Based on these degradations, the identification of relevant features is assessed for degradation detection. This leads to two possible applications:

  • automatic diagnostics: automatic identification of degradations affecting a component or a system of components;
  • prognostics: estimation of the remaining useful life of a component or a system of components.
