Structural design of machine elements

The development of mechanical components for machinery, plants, and vehicles requires proper design to ensure stress levels that are compatible with correct operation, primarily in terms of strength and stiffness. This is achieved through theoretical and numerical analysis of the behaviour in service, as well as experimental verification on models and prototypes. The activities carried out involve both investigative techniques and their application to design optimization, including components obtained through additive manufacturing.

Research includes:

  • gears, splines, and transmission components in general;
  • rolling bearings;
  • threaded, welded, and adhesive connections;
  • aeronautical and aerospace structures of various complexities studied through static, dynamic/aeroelastic, buckling, and failure analyses;
  • lightweight, lattice, and flexible structures.
