This research area deals with investigating, designing and testing artificial intelligence methodologies, therefore both machine and deep learning, in order to understand, categorize and predict the behavior of a user performing a certain activity. The context can be within the industrial field (a worker on the production line or a maintenance technician), medical (the surgeon in action or the patient in rehabilitation), sport (the athlete in motion during a race) or of other nature. The behavioral analysis is not limited to monitoring and mapping the bodily (or hand) movements through appropriate depth cameras, but also to analyze the subject’s emotional state and mental workload thanks to emotional monitoring systems such as EEG, skin conductance, 3D facial expression analysis. Since the topic lays in the field of human-machine/robot/system interaction, a research project in this area can be integrated by applications in virtual or augmented reality, and/or by "user-centred" design methods.
