Emerging technologies in pharmaceutical manufacturing

The pharmaceutical industry is developing and implementing innovative manufacturing technologies that are more efficient and flexible and meet the Industry 5.0’s goals. In this direction, much emphasis is given to the development of continuous manufacturing technologies which, in addition to increasing the throughput, are also intelligent, i.e., are equipped with tools that monitor production systems, identify inefficiencies, minimize production waste and optimize the energy consumption. For example, the PhD in Chemical Engineering is working on the development of new continuous systems for the production of biopharmaceuticals, such as the continuous freeze-drying of single doses or in bulk via spray freeze-drying.
