This line of research focuses on the historical analysis of the relationship between architecture and the urban context to which it is related. This area of investigation engages a strong dialogue with international debates on the nature of urban history – its specificities, its goals, its methods of investigation.
A relevant sub-topic is the history of urban planning as a specific field of technical expertise, and the history of plans and their impact on spatial transformation. Such perspectives share a focus on physical space (buildings, public spaces), seen as a starting point for a social history of the relationships between architecture and the city.
