Interdisciplinary Studies in the Long Nineteenth Century

Supervisors: Isabella Balestreri; Giovanna D’Amia; Filippo De Pieri; Carlo Mambriani; Sergio Pace

The area of research intends to focus on the transformations of cities, architectures, applied arts and, consequently, the so-called sister arts during the decades from the upheavals that took place in Europe and America in the last two decades of the 18th century to the years of the First World War when the ancient regime finally collapsed.

Through the exploration of necessarily heterogeneous sources, the intention is to question the principles and dynamics behind the processes of modernisation that, in approximately one hundred and fifty years, dramatically changed every topographical and social device, or every linguistic and symbolic framework, in architecture as well as in the other arts.
