Early modernity and the roots of modern architecture

Supervisors: Isabella Balestreri; Giovanna D’Amia; Roberto Dulio; Carlo Mambriani; Edoardo Piccoli; Alessandro Armando

Promoting research on early modern architecture, with specific emphasis on research questions that may be extended towards 19th and 20th-century architectural cultures, is a tradition within DASP, testified by a long line of theses, going back to the 1980s.

Architectural media, the developments of the architectural profession, the history of State institutions such as architectural academies, and the relevance of architectural publications in the “long” eighteenth century are some of the topics we seek to explore further. A sophisticated, up-to-date critical approach to archival sources is one of the skills candidates are asked to develop during their research.
