China Room is a research hub for researchers who, focusing on architecture and cities, are interested in the processes of urban and infrastructural development in China. China Room senior and junior researchers, who work at DAD and DIST departments of Politecnico di Torino, and have various disciplinary approaches (architects, urban planners, geographers, historians), intend China as an opportunity to observe practices of global relevance and a laboratory in which questioning and testing different scientific and methodological placements. The activities span from research and training to professional practice, combining theoretical research with the participation in the real transformations of Chinese cities.

Recent research works in DASP have focused on: design of the domestic space in contexts of rapid urbanization; innovation of design practices and the standardization of construction processes; material legacy of industrialization processes and the reuse of the existing buildings; city’s transformations, whether ephemeral or structural; interactions between city and countryside.
