PhD:
The current project I am involved in focuses on the modelling and characterization of semiconductor lasers based on a III-V Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (RSOA) as active part and an integrated Silicon Photonics (SiPh) working as a mirror thanks to the presence of ring resonators.
The project is composed by a theoretical and experimental part both based on the analysis of ring resonators and waveguides made of Silicon and Polysilicon. Here absorption losses contribute to the reduction of the device performances through non linear effects such as Two Photon Absorption (TPA) and Free Carrier Absorption (FCA).
In this scenario the main challenge is to understand the origin of these losses and reduce their impact on Silicon mirror, with the ultimate goal of designing a commercial hybrid tunable laser.
