The Alpine space of Valle d’Aosta, Piemonte and Lombardia is facing major challenges, such as demographic trends through the combined effects of ageing and migration, socio-economic depletion typical of remote areas, as well as the resources managing issues to meet increasing demand in a sustainably, securely and affordably way, also under climate change (EC Communication concerning the European Union Strategy of the Alpine Region [COM(2015) 366 final]). The foreseen activities are fully consistent with the relevant smart specialization strategies of the three involved regions. With reference to the S3 of the Valle d’Aosta Region, actions are relevant to the smart mountain strategy within the following specialization areas: o Digitalization of processes and data security: Public Administration and Healthcare: new design of dematerialized and secure administrative processes o Development of new data-driven services for the public administration: Data enhancement and process optimization o Development of decision support system platforms: Facilitation of workflows in companies. o Smart systems for management of areas and villages: (i) Control and management of public services (lighting, viability, criticality set e.g., hydrogeological, ...); (ii) Support centers for telemedicine / remote assistance, smart working and distance learning.
