Regional and sectorial energy modelling

The research aims to apply and further develop available integrated assessment models to develop scenarios for regional and sectorial energy modelling.

Specific focus is given to model the evolution of emerging regions, especially in neighborhood areas of the European Union, including Africa, Eastern Europe/Central Asia and Middle East and to understand the development of newly global energy corridors that can provide mutual benefits in terms of security, climate goals and enhanced economic cooperation.

In addition, modelling framework will be applied to study sector coupling especially related to address solutions of for the decarbonization of hard-to-abate final sectors of industry, heavy-duty road transport, maritime and air transportation that often offer opportunities for sharing supply sources, synergies in infrastructure logistics, compatible energy services and complementary energy profiles.

The research is multidisciplinary focusing on core energy system sectors modelling such as supply, transformation and final uses as well as involving environmental sciences, industrial policy and more broad economical and political studies.
