Abstract

Dilatation of proximal Aorta (pAD) and hypertension represent the two main risk factors for aortic dissection[1]. pAD is frequent in hypertensive patients, with an average prevalence of 11%[2]. A consistent association between aortic remodeling and central pressure values has been observed[3]. New engineering models[5] are being developed to give an esteem of blood pressure values along different tract of the vascular tree in the human body. The availability of such a mathematical model may grant precise hemodynamic information for patients affected by pAD. This may lead to a better risk stratification for this subgroup of patients and a consistent saving in terms of instruments and cost. The aim of our study will be to develop and validate a mathematical model for the 'patient specific' non invasive evaluation of central blood pressure. The performance of the mathematical model will be tested against the actual gold standard for non invasive blood pressure evaluation.
