Nilufer Saglar Onay is an architect and an academician with more than 17 years of teaching experience in the field of interior architecture. She has been an associate professor in Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Interior Architecture until 2015. Since 2004 she has worked for developing the bachelor program of Interior Architecture in ITU as well as the International Master of Interior Architectural Design, IMIAD. She has contributed to IMIAD, organising international workshops and contributing to the program in one of the partner institutions, SUPSI Switzerland (2008). She has completed her PhD in ITU in 2010 with her thesis focusing on proportions of Interior Space. In 2011 and 2012 she has run a post-doctoral research in the University of Florence, Department of Technology and Design focusing on interventions on historic interiors. She was the leader of the first national research project in the field of interior architecture in Turkey. The project aimed to generate a user-centred model for flexible interior design and to apply the model to standard housing units in Istanbul. Her main research focus is wellbeing in interior environments with numerous apertures of the concept towards residential interiors, historic environments and museums. She has many international publications including books, book chapters and conference papers.

With her international background fed from different cultural environments, her main intend is to create a long- lasting platform of sharing between institutions in terms of research, education and practice in the field of interior architecture.
