Biografia

Valentina Burgassi, Architect, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Architectural History at the Politecnico di Torino. She holds the Italian national scientific habilitation as Associate Professor (ICAR/18 – CEAR/11A) and the French qualification as Maître de Conférences (CNU Section 22). She is co-founder of the Construction History Group (CHG) at the Politecnico di Torino and serves on its Directive Board. After completing a postgraduate Specialisation in Architectural and Landscape Heritage, she obtained a joint PhD in Architectural and Landscape Heritage at the Politecnico di Torino and in Art History at the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE, Paris). She is membre associée of HISTARA EA 7347 (EPHE–PSL) and has held research fellowships at the École Française de Rome (2018) and at the Palladio Museum (2020). She is currently Action Chair of the Horizon Europe COST Action CA24102 – A Glossary of Technical Construction Vocabulary in 17th–18th Century European Court Residences (EUROGLOSS) (2025–2029) and Principal Investigator of the CRAFTED Project (2025–2027), which focuses on craft knowledge, technical language, and material practices on Early Modern building sites. She is also a member of the Management Committee for Italy of the COST Action CA24132 – LEonardo’s Codex Atlanticus and Other Miscellaneous Folios: A Digital Reconstruction (LEAF). She is the author of Renaissance Malta (Florence: Olschki, 2022). Her research has been published in international journals and edited volumes and investigates Early Modern architecture and construction history, with particular attention to historical building processes, material practices, ephemeral architecture, and the organisation of craftsmanship across Europe and the Mediterranean.
