Biography

Pietro Basci received the M.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering from Politecnico di Torino, Italy, in 2023. Currently, he is a Ph.D. student at the Dipartimento di Automatica e Informatica (DAUIN) of Politecnico di Torino, collaborating with the GRAINS research group, under the supervision of Prof. Lia Morra and Prof. Tania Cerquitelli. His research interests include Generative AI, Multimodal Foundation Models, Representation Learning and Image Understanding.

He is currently working on novel strategies for enhancing Text-to-Image generative models, striving to balance resource and data demands with the prompt following capabilities of the final model. Simultaneously, he is seeking to mitigate known issues for a responsible and ethical AI, by exploring methods for protecting privacy in images shared online, compensating inherent models' biases to ensure fairness, lowering the risks from generating offensive contents and memorizing training inputs so exposing to copyright infringements claims.

He collaborated with the same research group, supported by a one-year research grant, on the CAMOUFLaGE (Controllable AnonyMizatiOn throUgh diFfusion-based image coLlection GEneration) project, funded by AI4Media, and the FRESCO (Face Representation in E-Societies through Computational Observation) computational pipeline, designed within the FACETS (Face Aesthetics in Contemporary E-Technological Societies) project, funded by an ERC Consolidator Grant.
