Biography

Antonio Gliozzi was born in Turin, Italy, on October 22, 1973. He received his MSc in Physics from the University of Turin in 1998 (110/110 cum laude) with a thesis in statistical mechanics entitled “The Phase Transition and the Groundstate Structure of Diluted Spin Glasses” under the supervision of Prof. S. Sciuto and Prof. R. Zecchina. In 2001 he obtained a PhD in Physics at the University of Milan with a dissertation on “Semiclassical Methods for Highly Correlated Electron Systems” (advisor: Prof. A. Parola). He carried out research at INFM (Como Unit, 2001–2002) and since 2003 at Politecnico di Torino, where he has been Associate Professor of Condensed Matter Physics (DISAT Department) since 2016. He currently coordinates the Nonlinear Elasticity and Metamaterials Research Group and the Laboratory of Optics, Acoustics and Elasticity. His scientific activity focuses on: - design and characterization of innovative elastic metamaterials (bio-inspired, hierarchical, and photo-responsive) for wave manipulation in solids and acoustic/ultrasonic devices; - quantification of nonlinear elasticity in solids for early-stage damage detection; - multiscale modeling and simulation of elastic and ultrasonic wave propagation; He has been involved in several national and international research projects, including leadership roles and Work Package coordination in the EU projects AERONEWS (FP6), BOHEME (H2020-FETOPEN), BIOMETARAIL (H2020-FET), and RAVEN (Horizon Europe). Since 2011 he has been lecturer of Physics I (Classical Mechanics and Thermodynamics) at Politecnico di Torino and has supervised several PhD and MSc students. He is the author of more than 100 ISI/Scopus publications, with over 1700 citations and an H-index of 21 (Scopus, 2025). He has been invited speaker at numerous international conferences, referee for high-impact journals, and since 2025 has been a member of the editorial board of Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio).
