Biography

Michele Giovanni Bianchi got his M.S. degree in ‘Nanotechnologies for ICTs’, cum laude, in 2022, at the Politecnico di Torino (POLITO). From November 2022, he is a PhD student in physics at the Politecnico di Torino under the supervision of Prof. Giancarlo Cicero and a research member of the “Materials and Processes for Micro and Nano Technologies” of Prof. Fabrizio Pirri, a shared group between the “Department of Applied Science and Technology” (POLITO) and the “Center for Sustainable Future Technologies” of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT-Torino). From March 2023, he is also a guest student in the Atomistic Simulations group of Prof. Michele Parrinello at the ‘Center for Human Technologies’ of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT-Genova). From November 2025, he is involved in the European COST Action "EUropean COllaborative Network on electroCatalysis for Efficient Renewable Technologies" (EU-CONCERT). His current research activity is devoted to the atomistic simulations of nanoscale systems and surface reactivity. Based on the state-of-the-art Density Functional Theory, Molecular Dynamics, and Machine Learning potential techniques, he is deepening the comprehension of the charge transfer mechanisms at solid-gas as well as solid-liquid interfaces. Examples of applications of his work are gas sensors on novel 2D materials and electrocatalytic cells for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER) and CO2 reduction (CO2R).
