Biography

I am an Assistant Professor at Politecnico di Torino (Italy), Department of Management and Production Engineering. My research focuses on sustainable supply chain management adopting a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods, looking primarily at green supply chains, circular economy, reverse logistics, performance measurement, food supply chains, food distribution and logistics.

Scientific branch

IEGE-01/A - Business and Management Engineering
(Area 0009 - Industrial and information engineering)

Research topics

  • Advancement of the strategic framing of Weir’s sourcing and circular economy (CE) approach /// The project aims to significantly enhance WEIR’s sustainability and its capability for a more circular business approach, by identifying options to reduce embedded CO2 emissions of sourced materials and products as well as by analyzing circular business models’ options for end-of-life WEIR products within the mining industry. /// Main areas of research interest: supply chain management, circular economy, reverse logistics, environmental sustainability, performance measurement. /// Research methodologies: single case study.
  • An eco-intensity based method to assess environmental sustainability performance of multi-tier supply chains /// The project aimed to develop a method to assess the environmental sustainability of multi-tier supply chains thanks to a number of eco-intensity indicators that relate the environmental performance of the supply chain to its economic output. The method is the first to allow assessing the environmental sustainability performance of multi-tier supply chains using primary data sourced from actual practice, while respecting the multiple-organisation nature and non-collaborative characteristics of the majority of real-life supply chains. The method has been operationalised and validated in two different supply chains, from the food and the machineries sector /// Main areas of research interest: supply chain management & logistics, sustainable (environmental) supply chain management, performance measurement /// Research methodologies: systematic literature review, conceptual and mathematical modelling, semi-structured interviews, multiple case studies.
  • Large scale demonstration of new circular economy value-chains based on the reuse of end-of-life fiber reinforced composites /// The H2020 FiberEUse research project aims at integrating in a holistic approach different innovation actions aimed at enhancing the profitability of composite recycling and reuse in value-added products. The specific task aims to evaluate the robustness of the innovative circular economy business models, including a probability and risk assessment /// Main areas of research interest: supply chain management, circular economy, circular business models, reverse logistics, environmental sustainability, risk assessment. /// Research methodologies: survey, fuzzy sets, scenario tree analysis, multiple case studies.
  • Supporting vulnerable small local farmers in Brazil distribute their products and improve their standard of living /// The research project aimed to support the vulnerable family farmers of Canudos settlement in Brazil to distribute their products through the governmental National School Feeding Program by providing them training on logistical and distribution methods and developing costing tools to support them in the decisions related to their production as well as to their distribution network. /// Main areas of research interest: supply chain management, distribution & logistics, supply chain management for social sustainability, solidarity economy, agro-food supply chains. /// Research methodologies: survey, mathematical programming, single case study.
  • Understanding the challenges smallholder farmers are facing towards commercialisation of their produce in developing countries: the case of Malawi /// The research project aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by smallholder Malawian farmers to distribute and commercialise their produce as well as of their root causes, in order to move from a subsistence style of agriculture towards commercial agriculture /// Main areas of research interest: supply chain management, distribution & logistics, supply chain management for social sustainability, solidarity economy, agro-food supply chains. /// Research methodologies: survey, interpretive structural modelling (ISM), single case study.
