Biography

Maria Teresa Carriero, a PhD student at the Politecnico di Torino, obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Building Engineering in 2017 from the Politecnico di Bari and her Master's Degree in Civil Engineering in 2020 from the Politecnico di Torino. In her Master's thesis project, she focused on the characterization and stability analysis of rock masses outcropping along the Vallone dell'Elva road. At the Politecnico di Torino, in 2020, she was awarded a research scholarship for numerical modeling related to the analysis of the stability conditions of riverbanks during the filling and emptying processes of a flood reservoir storage structures. In 2021, she began her PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering, specializing in three-dimensional numerical modeling of hybrid barriers and attenuators for rockfall protection. Her research is part of a larger project aimed at studying the behavior of these systems through full-scale tests and using calibrated numerical models as a sort of virtual testing field. Additionally, the research aims to define the design procedures for these systems by applying a design approach based on Reliability-Based Design (RBD) and metamodeling procedures.
During her PhD studies, she has participated and presented at various national and international conferences in the geotechnical field, particularly focused on rock mechanics. She collaborated with Professor Migliazza on a research project studying the stability of a marble quarry and on laboratory activities for material characterization. Together with Professor Migliazza, she has supervised students and thesis candidates in the Foundations course and in their Master's thesis work.
