Biography

Luca is a Ph.D. student in Computer Engineering at Politecnico di Torino (Italy) under the supervision of Professor Lamberti and Professor Chiaberge. He got a Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering at Politecnico di Torino in 2020. His research focuses on computer vision and deep learning-based methods. Currently, he is working on advanced learning strategies for visual understanding.

A key area of his work is reducing the high data and computational costs required to train deep neural networks. He has advanced the use of synthetic data generated through both traditional computer graphics techniques and cutting-edge generative models, such as diffusion-based architectures, to supplement or even replace real-world datasets. This approach not only reduces reliance on costly, manually labeled data but also enables fine-grained control over specific variables, resulting in balanced and diverse datasets that enhance model training.

Beyond data generation, his research explores integrating prior knowledge into model training. This strategy improves model robustness, adaptability to data drift, and long-term performance in dynamic environments. His contributions have been integral to several prominent projects, including the EU-funded CAMOUFLaGE - AI4media project, where he helped develop privacy-preserving diffusion models for image anonymization, and the FACETS project, which analyzed the social implications of face recognition technologies.
