Biography

Valentina Benna is currently a PhD student in Bioengineering and Medical and Surgical Sciences at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino in Turin, Italy. She obtained her Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from the same institution in 2024, writing her thesis on designing a musculoskeletal modelling pipeline to reveal the effect of spinal sagittal alignment on intervertebral joint loads. Previously, she worked as a research fellow investigating the mechanical behavior of spinal devices via in silico simulation. The main focus of her PhD project is designing new medical devices for spinal and trauma applications using in silico simulations based on finite element modelling and multibody analysis. Particular attention will be paid to creating digital twins to replace in vitro and in vivo experiments, which will reduce the time and cost of introducing the devices into clinical use.
