Biography

Marco Piumetti obtained his degree in Chemical Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino, continuing his education and research activities at the Laboratoire de Réactivité de Surface (LRS) of the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Sorbonne Université) in Paris. In 2010, he earned a European PhD in Materials Science and Technology, also at the Politecnico di Torino, and subsequently engaged in postdoctoral research, collaborating for several months with prestigious international institutions such as the Fritz-Haber Institute in Berlin, Peterhouse College in Cambridge, and Purdue University in West Lafayette. Since 2019, Marco Piumetti has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Science and Technology at the Politecnico di Torino. Within the PhD program in Chemical Engineering, he teaches the courses "Catalysis and Biocatalysis: Fundamentals and Perspectives" and "Sustainable Engineering." For the Master's Degree in Industrial Chemistry for Circular and Bio Economy at the Università Federico II di Napoli and the Politecnico di Torino, he is responsible for the course "Circular Platforms for Energy and Materials Recovery I," while for the Master's Degree in Chemical and Sustainable Process Engineering, he teaches the course "Biochemistry and Sustainable Biotechnologies." Additionally, he lectures on "The Sustainability Society" (Grand Challenges - Climate) for the Bachelor's Degree in Chemical and Food Engineering. Marco Piumetti's research activity primarily focuses on the study of nanostructured materials, natural zeolites, and catalytic and photocatalytic technologies for environmental applications. His main areas of interest include the abatement of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), CO2 capture and valorization and the removal of pollutants from liquid phases. In recent years, he has expanded his scientific interests to include biocatalysis and the development of enzymatic biosensors for biomedical applications. His research, characterized by a multidisciplinary approach, reflects a continuous commitment to innovation and sustainability. Marco Piumetti is the author of over a hundred scientific articles published in international journals and four academic monographs.
