Biography

Marco Vanni has been full professor in the field of “Applied Physical Chemistry” at the Department of Applied Science and Technology of the Polytechnic of Turin since January 2012. Previously, he had been a university researcher since 1991 and associate professor, also at the Polytechnic of Turin, since 2001. He is currently in charge of courses in "Applied physical chemistry" (focused on surface phenomena and dispersed systems) and “Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics”. He was coordinator of the doctorate in Chemical Engineering in 2014-18 to and responsible for the management of the degree courses in Chemical Engineering (I and II level) in 2015-18. The main subject of his research activity is the study of multiphase dispersed systems, with particular interest to the investigation of fluid dynamic aspects, both at macro and micro scale, mass transfer, surface phenomena and population balances. In many cases the research work was based on computational fluid dynamics, but supplemented by proper modeling of microscale phenomena or surface interactions. As a result of this activity, he has authored about 100 papers in international journals or conference proceedings. He was head of research unit in past National Research Projects focused on multiphase dispersed systems (PRIN2003, PRIN2006) and participated in European projects as coordinator of the aspects related to computational fluid dynamics. More recently, he has been responsible for a number of applied research projects with industrial companies: wet production of nanoparticles (Rockwood Italia, 2007-08, 2010-12); mixing and dispersion of additives in elastomers (Pirelli Tyre, 2008-2011); use of Computational Fluid Dynamics in gas liquid reactors (Enitecnologie, 2006-08; Eni 2009-2012; Eni 2018-20).
