Biography

Valter Giaretto, born in Turin on 9 September 1956, residing in Turin in via Baretti 19, married to Lucilla Castellani, two children, Francesco and Florinda. Technical High School Diploma (1975), Degree in Civil Engineering (1983), University Researcher (1990), Associate Professor (1997), Full Professor (2005). The didactic tasks concern, and have in particular concerned, the basic engineering courses focused on applied thermodynamics and heat transfer. In the post-graduate period (1983-1990), prior to taking up service as a university researcher and in the role of external collaborator, the research activities have been pointed out to the energy and thermo-fluid dynamics aspects according to the system approach (territory, industrial plants and aereaulic networks of tunnels). During the university career (1990 - today), the research activities have been primarily focused on transport phenomena. Theoretical and experimental approaches were oriented to the determination of thermophysical properties (conductivity, diffusivity, and specific heat), thermo-optical properties (extinction for in -scattering and absorption) and thermoelectric properties (Seebeck coefficient of bulk semiconductors). In addition to this main research activity, others have concerned the verification of the dimensional stability of mechanical devices made of composite materials (CFRP, Titanium – Honeycomb), the thermo-fluid dynamics of complex aereaulic networks and, lately, cryogenic probes for cardiological applications.
