Biography

Muhammad Waseem received his master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, one of Pakistan's leading engineering universities. In his thesis, titled "A Scheduling Algorithm for optimal utilization of Electric Vehicle Charging Station," he developed software to dynamically manage electric vehicle charging queues using multi-objective optimization algorithms capable of finding the best solution considering charging costs and waiting times.
He participated as a team leader in a research project funded by the Pakistani government, where he developed a prototype robot capable of supporting bomb squads during the detection and defusing phases of a bomb.
He has had several experiences as a lecturer in academia on topics related to electrical engineering.
He is now a Ph.D. candidate in Electrical, Electronics, and Communications Engineering at the Department of Energy, Politecnico di Torino, Italy. His research project aims to identify and test methodologies to make local public transport companies carbon-neutral with economically sustainable solutions. In this context, his research interests are mainly related to the characterization of the consumption of a local public transport company, and the process of electrification of the fleet.

Research topics

  • My research activities, which are expected to make the local public transport companies carbon neutral, are expected to be divided into three main lines of research: 1-Electrification and/or hydrogen fueling of vehicles 2-Electrification and efficiency improvement of industrial plants 3-Optimization of the overall energy system based on generation from renewable sources, storage and multi-commodity systems, power plant supply, and charging of public transport vehicles. The research topic is linked to the research and innovation needs of the Turin Transportation Group and is closely related to the objectives of Missions 2 and 3 of the NRP, including energy transition and the development of a modern and sustainable transportation infrastructure that can be a model for all Italian public transport realities.
