Politecnico Strengthens Relations with Latin America
Politecnico continues its efforts to strengthen international relations with Latin America. Yesterday, PoliTO welcomed an Argentine delegation from the Union of Honorary Consuls of Italy Worldwide (UCOIM), comprising Italo Cassina, Vice-President of the Union for Argentina, and Matias E. Bossa, Honorary Consul of Italy in Villa María. The two guests were received by the Vice-Rector for Resource Planning, Stefano Zucca.
During the meeting, the activities promoted by UCOIM were presented. The organisation, officially recognised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), brings together an international network of Italian Honorary Consuls. The association promotes coordination and collaboration among Italian consular representatives abroad, supporting cultural, institutional and economic initiatives in the territories in which it operates. UCOIM currently includes 75 associated Honorary Consuls within a global network of more than 500 Italian Honorary Consuls across different continents.
In the case of Argentina, ties with Piedmont and Italy are particularly strong, also in light of the historic Piedmontese emigration to the South American country during the last century. The 35 Italian Honorary Consuls based across Argentina work in close cooperation with the Consulates General and represent an important point of reference thanks to their in-depth knowledge of local contexts and the continuity of their role over time.
The visit to Politecnico forms part of a broader programme of institutional meetings in Italy, which has also involved political and business organisations in the Piedmont region, including the Piedmont Regional Government and Agenfor, with the aim of developing potential future collaborations, particularly in the fields of agri-food and technological innovation.
“Given Politecnico’s longstanding relationship with Argentina, together with the many ongoing initiatives, projects and student exchanges, being able to rely on the support of an organisation such as UCOIM could provide a further boost to the strong relations between our countries”, commented Vice-Rector Stefano Zucca.
