Politecnico and TXT Group launch Futura Innovation Lab

Politecnico di Torino and TXT Group have strengthened their partnership through a new agreement, supporting collaboration between academia and industry with the Futura Innovation Lab. This new research infrastructure, dedicated to technological and digital innovation, is backed by an investment of 4 million euros within the ISM4Italy project, a technology and innovation infrastructure funded by the PNRR (Mission 4, Component 2) and coordinated by the university.

Through the Partnership Agreement and the Futura Innovation Lab, the university and the company promote interdisciplinary cross-fertilisation, structured collaboration, and shared growth, making their technological assets and expertise accessible to all their stakeholders, employees, researchers, students, partners, and clients.

Futura Innovation Lab is available for the design and testing of innovative, tailored solutions for clients operating in the aerospace, industrial and manufacturing, logistics and transport sectors, as well as other areas of high technological complexity.

The new lab is split across two locations: one in Turin, near Politecnico, and one at TXT's headquarters in Milan, two hubs that, with their deep industrial heritage, serve as benchmarks for technological innovation in Italy. Futura Innovation Lab is structured around three specialised, interconnected areas, equipped with the key technologies for research and development activities: XRLab (applications based on Extended Reality, XR), SimLab (Modelling & Simulation-as-a-Service), and DroneLab (autonomous drone flight testing, airspace management, and inter-aircraft communications).

Technologies of the future

Futura Innovation Lab is already fully operational and ready to launch research, development, and advanced experimentation projects in collaboration with businesses, universities, and industrial partners. The lab will also contribute to attracting new talent and developing the skills needed to tackle the technological challenges of the future.

"We are delighted to have launched, together with Politecnico di Torino, a long-term strategic collaboration focused on research and technological innovation in Italy, embodied by the Futura Innovation Lab and the signing of the Partnership Agreement. Our joint commitment starts with establishing Futura Innovation Lab as an enabler of this synergy, creating an ecosystem where academia and industry can work in an integrated and continuous manner. The combination of vision, expertise, and technology makes it possible to develop highly innovative solutions and to support companies across various sectors in their growth and transformation journeys, through a bespoke, consultative approach," says Michele Sesana, Innovation Manager at TXT GROUP.

"The collaboration with TXT aims to develop innovative solutions for applying digital technologies primarily in the aerospace sector, with potential applications in other areas of interest as well. The goal is to address the challenges arising from international competitiveness by jointly developing multiple research activities and training highly skilled professionals capable of strengthening the role of Italian industry in the sector," adds Giorgio Guglieri, AdP contact, coordinator of ISM4Italy and Director of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering-DIMEAS.
