Isola del Giglio and Giannutri: Clean Energy Transition Agenda finalised
A joint initiative to support the energy transition of the smaller islands. The publication of the Clean Energy Transition Agenda for the Islands of Giglio and Giannutri marks the development of a strategy that identifies scenarios and actions for the decarbonisation and sustainable development of the two islands. The document was developed by the MOREnergy Lab at Politecnico, in collaboration with the Municipality of Isola del Giglio and with input from key local stakeholders, including Maregiglio and Acquedotto del Fiora, to support integrated energy planning and guide future development decisions for the area.
The initiative is part of the “30 Renewable Islands for 2030” programme, promoted by the European Commission’s Clean Energy for EU Islands Secretariat, a body that supports European islands in their energy transition journeys. As the Secretariat’s Italian regional partner, the MOREnergy Lab has assisted the islands of Giglio and Giannutri – selected as part of the programme – in defining their agenda and related energy development prospects.
The Agenda analyses the territorial, environmental and energy characteristics of the two islands and assesses various development pathways based on the integration of renewable energy sources, storage systems, and innovative energy management solutions.

The work carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Giglio, which involved key local stakeholders such as Maregiglio and Acquedotto del Fiora, confirms the importance of a cross-cutting approach that integrates technical expertise, institutional responsibility, and direct knowledge of local services.
