Biography

Mauro Tortello is Associate Professor in Experimental Physics of Matter and Applications at the DISAT Department. At present, his main research interests are the study of the mechanical and electromechanical properties of biological samples like silk fibers, seashells, tissues, bird beaks, echinoid tests, mainly in view of the design of bioinspired materials. He also studies the thermal and morphological properties of graphene and 2D materials, reduced graphene oxide nanoplates and graphene-based nanocomposites. The research is pursued mainly by means of Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Force vs Distance curves and Nanoindentation, Piezoresponse Force Microscopy (PFM), Scanning Thermal Microscopy (SThM), NanoThermal Analysis (NanoTA), elastic waves propagation experiments and Finite Element Analysis.
