Biography

Irene Ruiz Bazán is a Doctor in Art History from the University of Zaragoza. She holds a Master's degree in Architectural Restoration, an Architecture degree, a Bachelor in Business Sciences a Master degree in European Union, and a Master's degree in Fine Arts from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera (Milan). Currently, she works as an associate professor at the Politecnico di Torino, where she teaches Restoration Theories and History, and also teaches at the Master's program in Cultural Heritage Management at the University of Zaragoza and in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master ARURCOHE Architectural and Urban Contemporary Heritage of the University of the Basque Country, Politecnico di Torino,and Kaunas University of Technology. She served as the scientific coordinator of the Interreg Europe project MOMAr (Models of Management for Singular Rural Heritage) on behalf of Zaragoza’s Provincial Council (2020–2023), and is currently involved in the Interreg Europe projects REliHE (Religious Heritage in Rural Areas) and Cycling Waterways, where Politecnico di Torino acts as Advisory Lead Partner and Advisory Partner, respectively. Together with Gianluca Vita, she has carried out various projects involving the digitization of cultural assets, including the medieval paintings of Daroca (Zaragoza, Spain), the mural medieval paintings of Alcañiz Castle (Teruel, Spain), and the Cultural Heritage of the town of Fréscano (Zaragoza). She has also developed the digitization strategy for the Mudéjar Territory Association. She has authored over 60 scientific publications, including four books. In her professional career, she has worked on various restoration projects, including the renovation of the roofs of the Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar in Zaragoza, the restoration of Tarazona Cathedral, the restoration of the Church of Santa María de la Huerta in Magallón, the restoration of the Co-Cathedral of Santa María del Romeral in Monzón, and the Cappella della Purificazione in the Chiesa del Carmine(Milan). As an architectural photographer, her images have been published in media such as Domus, Architectural Digest, Arquitectura Viva, El País, Skira Editore... She has also been selected as an architectural photographer to participate in the research project MUWO - Women in (post)modern architectural culture, 1965-2000, where she has documented the works carried out by women architects in Aragón.
