Biography

With a first-level degree in Industrial Design and a second-level degree in Eco-sustainable Product Design at the Politecnico di Torino, Doriana Dal Palù obtained her Ph.D. in Technological Innovation for the Built Environment in 2016. Since then, she has collaborated constantly with the Department of Architecture and Design of the Politecnico di Torino as a Research Fellow before, as an Assistant Professor later, and now as Associate Professor. Since 2023, she has carried out activities serving the Design Course of Studies (Bachelor's Degree Course in Design and Communication) as Study Course Vice-coordinator before, and Referent currently. Her research activity focus on developing new practices for designing product sounds. Her research extends to include innovation in the world of materials for design, particularly investigating the change of technological paradigms. Since 2013, she has collaborated with MATto, the Politecnico di Torino material library that counts over 1,000 innovative materials samples. Since 2018, she has been MATto’s Project Manager, working with local, national, and international businesses on the development of new production and material scenarios, as well as on two EU-funded projects, including one Horizon Europe project dedicated to transparent wood (AI-TW, 2024-27), and another one dedicated to innovative biobased polymers (BIOMAPS, 2025-28). Her research and teaching collaborations are with IRCAM in Paris (FR), ESAN in Aveiro (PT), ECAM in Lyon (FR), ELISAVA in Barcelona (ES), and TU in Delft (NL). At the Politecnico di Torino, she is a lecturer in design and in innovative materials courses for the Bachelor's Degree in Design and Communication and at the Interior, Exhibit, and Retail Design Master.
