Biography

Chongyang Wang is pursuing a dual PhD degree at Chongqing University and Politecnico di Torino. His research focuses on rock mechanics in mining and the stability control of surrounding rock under fluid-solid coupling conditions. His research primarily covers three areas: Deformation and yield characteristics of coal under true triaxial stress and seepage conditions; Seepage behavior and damage mechanisms of surrounding rock under fluid-solid coupling; Fatigue-induced instability mechanisms of water-bearing surrounding rock. Through these studies, he has made several original contributions, including the development of a fluid-solid coupling damage model for coal-rock under complex conditions. By introducing a complex-valued damage index, he has established a scientific method for evaluating surrounding rock damage. His research findings have been successfully applied and validated in a water-rich roadway of a phosphate mine in Yunnan, improving the stability of the surrounding rock under complex conditions.

As a key researcher, Chongyang Wang has participated in multiple national and industrial research projects. As of March 2025, he has published 15 SCI papers as the first or corresponding author in top international journals such as IJRMMS, RMRE, Energy, CBM, and POF, with a total of 131 citations. He holds 12 invention patents, 3 utility model patents, and 3 software copyrights.

Chongyang Wang has received several prestigious awards, including the Second Prize of the China Association of Work Safety Science and Technology Progress Award (Ranked 5th) and Third Prize in the Chongqing University Student Safety and Emergency Skills Competition. He has been recognized as one of the Top Ten Students of the School of Resources and Safety Engineering at Chongqing University (the highest student honor of the school), a Chongqing University Outstanding Student, and an Outstanding Graduate. Additionally, he has been awarded the Baosteel Outstanding Student Scholarship, National Scholarship (PhD), CSC Scholarship for Overseas Study, and the Chongqing University "Tubo" Doctoral Scholarship. Beyond his research, Chongyang Wang serves as a peer reviewer for several international journals in the field of mining and rock mechanics.
